PANDU MODEL COLONY INAUGURATED
Maligaon, 27th July 2010: Shri Shiv Kumar, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway inaugurated the newly constructed Model Colony at Pandu, Guwahati today morning fulfilling one of the promises made by Honourable Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in her Railway Budget speech. The Chairperson of the N. F. Railway Women’s Welfare Organization Smt Anjana Ramdev and host of other senior officers and staff were present on the occasion.
The Model Colony was planned to provide more spacious, modern, esthetically planned residential accommodation for railway employees and their families replacing a few blocks of 80 year old quarters in Pandu Area. Built over an area of 44.63 acres, the Model Colony will have facilities of better water supply, improved lighting, better roads, better drainage system, playground, solid waste management system, market complex, recreational centers and planned landscaping.
The residential quarters in the colony will have 24-hour water supply with individual water storage facilities, ceramic tiles floorings, aluminum and glass door and window fittings, inbuilt storage facilities, balconies, concealed electrical wirings, emergency power back-up, parking space and proper garbage management system.
It is planned to build 312 Type I (Special), Type II and Type III residential quarters spread over 11 sectors in the Model Colony. While total number of Type I (special) quarters will be 24, the number of Type II quarters will be 186 and that of Type III will be 102. The Model Colony will have blocks of three-storied buildings, each having six quarters. While eight blocks in two sectors have already been constructed and allotted to railway employees, the rest are at various stages of construction.
With the inauguration of the residential colony, one of the major needs of the railway employees to have hygienic, spacious and planned accommodation along with all modern facilities needed for a residential area has been fulfilled. |
